Terms & Conditions

2206825 Alberta Ltd. (doing business as "Express Couriers & Co"), in collaboration with its affiliates, is involved in the transportation of parcels and packages within the province of Alberta. The services provided to customers are governed by the terms and conditions detailed herein and in compliance with the rates published or specified by Express Couriers & Co.

COMMODITIES SERVICED & RESTRICTIONS

Express Couriers & Co offers transportation services for general commodities to small businesses and the general public, subject to the following restrictions:

TENDERS

Express Couriers & Co does not handle the transportation of tenders. If a customer sends a "tender" without obtaining written approval in advance from Express Couriers & Co, we will not accept any financial or other responsibility for the consequences of failing to deliver the delivery on time.

DANGEROUS GOODS

Express Couriers & Co does not provide delivery services for any deliveries classified as "Dangerous Goods" under the Canada Transportation of Dangerous Goods Act.

ITEMS PROHIBITED BY EXPRESS COURIERS & CO

We do not provide transportation services for the following prohibited items:

  • Animal skins
  • Non-domesticated articles of unusual value
  • Cash, currency
  • People
  • Contraband
  • Firearms
  • Furs
  • Gemstones
  • Ivory
  • Live animals
  • Furniture
  • Any delivery that, in our judgment, could cause damage or delay to equipment, personnel, or other deliveries

This list is subject to change at the discretion of Express Couriers & Co.

PERISHABLE & THERMAL-SENSITIVE GOODS

Express Couriers & Co does not provide standard safeguards for the transportation of perishable or temperature-sensitive goods unless prior special arrangements are made. Such goods are accepted for transport at the sender's own risk regarding damage from temperature fluctuations.

PROHIBITED BY LAW

Express Couriers & Co will not transport any delivery that is banned by the laws or regulations of any federal, state, provincial, or local government where the delivery originates or is destined.

RIGHT OF INSPECTION

Express Couriers & Co retains the authority to open and examine any delivery presented for transport.

REWEIGH

Express Couriers & Co reserves the right to reweigh deliveries, regardless of any previously declared weight. For oversized deliveries additional charges may apply.

REFUSAL OF DELIVERIES

Express Couriers & Co has the right to decline any package if we determine it to be hazardous or if its contents could potentially contaminate, spoil, or harm other goods or our equipment. This also applies to deliveries that are not practical to deliver economically or operationally, or those that are inadequately packaged, wrapped, or labeled.

PROPER PACKAGING & LABELING

Packages must adhere to the packaging standards set by the International Safe Transit Association Project 1-A. Express Couriers & Co will not accept packages exceeding 20 kilograms and reserves the right to reject any package with unsafe or insufficient packaging.

We do not deliver to P.O. Boxes or Rural Route addresses. All deliveries require a full street address, including apartment, suite, or unit numbers, along with the consignee's contact phone number on each package. Delivery is made directly to the recipient; packages will not be left unattended. For deliveries consisting of multiple pieces, each piece should be clearly labeled with the complete delivery address and sequentially numbered (e.g., 1 of 3, 2 of 3, 3 of 3).

SERVICE

Express Couriers & Co exclusively provides direct point A to point B delivery services within the city of the sender.

RATES

Rates are displayed at checkout. Preferred partners may be eligible for discounted rates on delivery services.

MULTIPLE-PIECE DELIVERIES

All deliveries covered under a single Express Couriers & Co invoice number are treated as one delivery for the purpose of calculating delivery charges. Express Couriers & Co may carry multiple packages in a single delivery under with each package corresponding to a unique invoice number.

DECLARED VALUE PREMIUM/INSURANCE COVERAGE AGAINST LOSS OR DAMAGE

Standard Liability: Unless a higher value is declared, our liability for loss, damage, or delay of any delivery is limited to the lesser of:

  • The actual value of the goods (as proven by the sender), or
  • $500.00 per delivery.

Declared Value Option: For deliveries with a value exceeding $500.00, the sender may declare a higher value up to a maximum of $1,000.00 per delivery. A declared value fee will apply at a rate of $2 per $100 of declared value as determined by Express Couriers & Co. Declared values exceeding $500.00 require preauthorization from Express Couriers & Co and may be subject to additional terms. If preauthorization is not obtained, liability remains capped at $500.

Exceptions to Liability: Express Couriers & Co will not be liable for loss, damage, or delay caused by:

  • Acts of God,
  • Inherent vice or defect of the goods,
  • Fault or negligence of the shipper (e.g. improper packaging, labeling, or marking),
  • Seizure or destruction under legal process

Consequential Loss: While Express Couriers & Co strives for timely delivery, we are not liable for consequential losses (e.g., loss of profits, business interruption) arising from delay, unless such delay results from our gross negligence or willful misconduct.

Sender's Responsibility: The sender must ensure goods are properly packaged to withstand ordinary handling during transit. Items like ceramics, glass, liquids, perishables, personal goods, porcelain, or other fragile items must be properly labeled and packaged. Express Couriers & Co will exercise reasonable care but isn't liable for damage due to improper packaging or inherent fragility unless caused by our negligence. Any claims for loss or damage must be submitted in writing to admin@expresscouriers.co within 30 days of delivery (or expected delivery date for lost items), accompanied by proof of value (e.g., receipt, invoice).

AFTER HOURS DELIVERY CHARGE

Express Couriers & Co will do it's best to ensure that deliveries are completed same day when orders are placed between the hours of 09:00 and 21:30. Orders placed after 21:30 may be processed the next day.

RE-ATTEMPT CHARGE (WRONG ADDRESS / CLOSED)

If Express Couriers & Co cannot deliver a delivery due to an incorrect address, we will do our utmost to locate the correct destination. After verification from the customer, we will attempt delivery again. If delivery fails because the recipient's location is closed, we will contact the customer for further guidance or proceed according to the 'if closed' instructions given at the time of order. Alternatively, customers can choose to have the delivery returned. Each additional delivery attempt will incur a fee matching the original delivery charge, and returns will cost at least as much as the initial delivery.

OUT OF ZONE CHARGE

An extra fee may apply for deliveries that are picked up from or delivered to locations outside the standard service area of Express Couriers & Co. Deliveries outside of the sender city will require prior approval, contact 587-434-4794 for inquiries.

NO TRIP CHARGE (UNAVAILABLE PICK-UPS)

If Express Couriers & Co cannot complete a delivery pickup, the sender will be notified, and a no-trip charge equivalent to the base rate of the delivery will be applied.

WAITING TIME (INCLUDING LOAD AND UNLOAD)

After the first 10 minutes of complimentary time, a fee of $2 CAD will be charged for every additional 5 minutes or fraction thereof. Check the rate sheet for the exact charge.

WEIGHT CHARGE

For packages exceeding 20kg, additional approval and fees may be required. Contact admin@expresscouriers.co for inquiries.

PACKAGE SIZE

Packages must be able to fit in a standard sedan; for oversized packages, prior approval is required. contact admin@expresscouriers.co for inquiries.

SPECIAL RATES AVAILABLE FOR VOLUME SENDERS

RATES AND CHARGES ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE WITHOUT NOTICE.

ACCOUNTS AND INVOICING

TAXES

All applicable federal and provincial taxes mandated by law will be applied to freight costs and surcharges. The customer agrees to pay Express Couriers & Co all taxes associated with their account. GST Registration number is available upon request. Note that our services are exclusively within the Province of Alberta.

INVOICES

Payment must be made prior to completing the order at checkout. Invoices for Preferred Partners will be issued bimonthly on the 1st and 15th of each month. An interest charge of 0.385% per week (20% per annum) will be applied to account balances that remain unpaid for more than 5 weeks. In the case of non-payment, Express Couriers & Co reserves the right to suspend services and to pursue any other legal rights and remedies available. If legal action is required for the collection of overdue accounts, the customer agrees to cover all associated collection and legal fees.

DISPUTES

Any disputes regarding charges must be communicated to our billing department within thirty (30) days from the invoice date.

DELAY

Express Couriers & Co is not obligated to transport goods using a specific vehicle or to meet any particular market deadline or time, except for ensuring due dispatch, unless explicitly stated otherwise in our agreement.

PROOF OF DELIVERY

Express Couriers & Co shall not be held liable to the consignor, consignee, owner, or any third party for any loss, damage, or destruction of goods if the consignee/owner has signed a Proof of Delivery indicating that the goods were received in good condition.

INTERRUPTION OF SERVICE

Express Couriers & Co will not be liable for any interruption in delivery services.

EXCLUSION OF CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES

Express Couriers & Co shall not be liable to the customer, owner, consignor, consignee, or any third party with an interest in the goods for any special, indirect, incidental, or consequential losses or damages. This includes, but is not limited to, loss of profits, downtime expenses, costs due to delays, or expenses for substitute equipment, arising from or related to non-delivery, misdelivery, delay in delivery, or late delivery of goods, or from the loss, damage, or destruction of goods, unless caused by gross negligence or willful misconduct, including negligence, gross negligence, or a fundamental breach of this contract by Express Couriers & Co, its employees, or agents, whether or not we were aware of the potential for such losses or damages.

REFUNDS / CANCELLATIONS

To cancel an individual trip, please call our call center at 587-434-4794. If the courier has not yet been dispatched, you will receive a full refund. However, if the courier is already on the way, a NOTRIP charge equivalent to the base rate of the request will be applied. No refunds are issued for services that have been completed.

THIRD-PARTY SOFTWARE USAGE

Express Couriers & Co may use third-party software solutions to facilitate and complete deliveries. This software aids in optimizing routes, managing logistics, and ensuring timely service delivery. However, the use of such software does not imply any transfer of liability from Express Couriers & Co to the software providers for any issues related to the delivery process.

AUTOMATED COMMUNICATIONS

By placing an order, the customer consents to receiving automatic communications from Express Couriers & Co, including updates on delivery status and future communications related to our services. These communications may be generated by automated systems. Customers have the option to unsubscribe from these communications at any time by following the instructions provided in the messages or by contacting our customer service.
